Eulogy of The Late
Collins Mwangi Weru
The late Collins Mwangi Weru was born on 19th May 1997 in Migunda Mieru, Kanyagia Location, Nyandarua County. He was the first-born child and son to John Weru Mwangi (Snr Chief JB ) and Milka Njoki Gaita (Tr. Ndururumo High School) and brother to Linda Nyokabi Weru and Caroline Wanjiru Weru.
He was the first grandson to Samuel Mwangi Mwenja and Lydia Nyokabi. He was a nephew to the late Isaac Maina, Gabriel Wanjau, Julia Njeri, Beatrice Muthoni, Damaris Watetu, Anne Mumbi, Peter Munyua, Evans Wahome, Charles Njehuri, Nancy Wangari, the late Lucy Nyokabi, Rahab Wangui (Mukurino), Beatrice Wangeci, Stanley Mwangi and David Muthami. He was also a cousin to Doreen Nyokabi, Maureen Nyokabi, Angela Wambui, Caroline Wanjiru, Njeri Gichere, Erastus Gaita, Felix Muchira, Brian Mwangi, Lydia Nyokabi, Lenah Wanjiru, Jeff Mwangi, Ryan Mwangi, Joan Ndunge, Mark Wahome and many others.
He was raised in a household deeply rooted in the values of humility, love, compassion, empathy, and hard work. These values shaped his character and guided him through his early years, leaving a mark on everyone who came to know him. Growing up, he carried the warmth of his parents’ teachings and the responsibility of being the eldest sibling, always watching over his sisters and cousins with quiet strength and care.
The late Collins Mwangi Weru began his education at Doldol Catholic Mission Nursery School and proceeded to Doldol Primary School until Std 2. He later joined Nyahururu Elite School continuing his studies there up to Class Five. Collins then moved to St.Charles Lwanga Primary Boarding School in Naromoru, where he completed his primary education sitting for his KCPE in the year 2009. His dedication and hard work paid off, and he performed exceptionally well in his examinations, earning a place at Kanjuri Boys High School in 2010.
At Kanjuri Boys, Collins distinguished himself not only through discipline and determination but also through outstanding academic performance and successfully completed his secondary school studies in 2013, achieving a remarkable mean grade of A-.
With this strong foundation, Collins advanced to Jomo Kenyatta University ofAgriculture and Technology (JKUAT), where he pursued a five-year course in Marine Engineering. True to his nature, he remained focused and committed, and in 2019 he proudly graduated with a Second Class Upper Division degree, a testament to his intelligence, perseverance, and passion for excellence. He also attended the Bandari Maritime Academy where he was certified as a Seafarer.
The late Collins Mwangi Weru was nurtured in a Catholic Christian household. He was baptized in the year 2001 at St. Charles (Simbara), St. Peter and Paul Kanyagia Catholic Parish. His walk of faith grew steadily, and in 2007 he received his First Holy Communion, followed by the Sacrament of Confirmation in 2008 while at St. Charles Lwanga Primary Boarding School.
From a young age, Collins not only practiced the teachings of the Church, but also lived by its values, humility, service, and devotion. His commitment to God was evident in the way he carried himself and in how he treated others. He remained an active member of the Catholic Church throughout his life until his untimely demise.
He chose a path less conventional, but one that was deeply true to who he was. With determination and hard work, he pursued his passion for photography, videography, and storytelling, honing his skills into a craft that inspired many.
In the course of his journey, he took on different roles. As a video editor and film creator, he was involved in various projects, both locally and internationally, using his skills to tell stories that many could not put into words. His creativity and eye for detail made him an exceptional visual artist.
He discovered his love for adventure while at university travelling with friends and out of this adventurous spirit and his gift for bringing people together, in the year 2022, he co-founded Auwana Outdoors, an outdoor experience company dedicated to curating meaningful adventures through travelling, camping, hiking and yoga. Through it, he successfully brought together a vibrant community of travellers and curious minds, encouraging many to step out of their comfort zones and discover the beauty of both local and international adventure. He successfully organized numerous adventure trips in different parts of Kenya and in foreign countries like Tanzania.
Most recently, he served as the Visual Content Lead at Creative Consillium, a role he held with passion and dedication from November 2024 until his passing.
Collins was truly a blessing to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He was an ambitious young man with a deep love for adventure and an endless curiosity about life. His warmth and kindness knew no boundaries, whether family, friend, or acquaintance, Collins treated everyone with the same love and respect.
He was caring and compassionate, always willing to listen, encourage, and stand by others. Even in difficult times, Collins showed remarkable strength. He faced challenges with resilience and determination, never allowing obstacles to dim his spirit or deter him from pursuing his dreams.
What made Collins even more special was his ability to uplift those around him. As he worked to better himself, he also inspired and helped others to grow. Through his stories, experiences, and connections, he built a sense of community, bringing people together in ways that left lasting impressions.
Obedient, hardworking, and intelligent, Collins lived his life with integrity and purpose. Above all, he radiated love, spreading it generously to each and every person he encountered. In everything he did, Collins sought to leave his mark, not through grand gestures but through everyday acts of kindness, strength, and love.
Collins enjoyed good health throughout his life and had no known illnesses. On the 30th of August, while riding his bike along the Thika Superhighway near Kabati, Kenol in Murang’a County, he was involved in a fatal accident after being hit by a car at around 3:40 p.m. He sustained serious head and neck injuries and was rushed to Kenol Hospital. Sadly, minutes after his arrival, he succumbed to the injuries.
At 28 years of age, Collins left us far too soon. His passing has left a deep void in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who knew him.
